1/08/16 Treasure Coast Fishing Report

Fishing this week has been off to a great Start for 2016….

    Inshore-

Fishing inshore lately has been on fire! fishing shrimp on jig heads has been producing as many fish as you buy shrimp. Snook, Snapper, Redfish, SandTrout, Croaker, Sheepshead, Jack Crevelles, Black Drum, etc. Fishing shrimp can catch just about anything in the river! cold water means slowing down your presentation in January, shrimp on jigheads are an excellent choice for instant success. Fishing north by our St. Lucie power plant is yielding many Pompano & Seatrout lately. Fishing artificials such as Doa & berkley gulp is your best bet this week. Throw a goofy jig around sandy shoals for big Pompano & Flounder. Lots of Blues are around local inlets, toss something shiny out & do a fast retrieve for desired results. January is a great month for jig fishing with artificial or live shrimp.

    Nearshore-

Nearshore bite remains steady for Spanish Mackerel, Mutton Snapper, Sheepshead, Parrotfish, Triggerfish & Small Kingfish. Fishing around local reefs are a great way to capitalize on multiple species while adrift or at anchor. Fishing live bait fish or casting shiny spoons is a great choice. If there’s lots of surface activity try trolling for multiple hook ups. Cobia & Snapper are being caught on the first & second reefs along the coast out front of st. lucie inlet.

    Offshore

Fishing offshore has been very productive this week for Kingfish, Mahi, Sailfish, Blackfin Tuna, Cobia, Bonita, & Wahoo. Trolling a bit shallower we can expect to catch our limit of Kingfish early on in the trip. Kings are ranging from10-50 lbs this week. Pushing a little further offshore we can expect to catch Mahi-Mahi in size from 5- 15 lbs lately. A Stray wahoo is being taken every now & again and they average 40-60 lbs. Sailfish will show up behind the trolling spread throughout the day, if you’re lucky enough to entice a bite expect an extraordinary acrobatic display of jumps flips and cartwheels while drag screaming runs occur when engaged in battle with one of these beautiful billfish.
