January is here, wow 2016 flew by! Fishing is already off to a stellar start this year. Snook galore inshore to Mahi mayhem offshore!
Inshore fishing this week has been great for Snook, Snapper, Sheepshead, Ladyfish, Jacks, Redfish, Flounder, & Pompano. Fishing shrimp this time of year is an excellent way to catch multiple species in a short period of time. Fishing structure is going to be your best bet for bottom feeders. Mangrove shorelines will hold Redfish this time of year on higher tides. Open flats will hold larger trout & pompano. Doa cals, goofy jigs, small bucktales all work well during winter months when throwing artificial.
Fishing off the beach this week we are catching lots of Mackerel, Sheepshead, Snapper, Grunts, Porgies, Cobia, Blue Runners, & many more misc. reef critters. Nearshore fishing is great for lots of action with smaller fish during the month of January. if you want to keep the whole family busy for a few hours with rod bending action then book a nearshore charter! Fishing the beach just into the ocean is great for beginners as well. limited travel time & never leaving the sight of land offers comfort & more time spent fishing.
Offshore- For the Serious angler, youll want to target Mahi, Kingfish, Cobia, Sailfish, & Wahoo during the month of January. Trolling further offshore typically 8-12 miles out youll troll live or dead baits depending on the style of fishing we choose. Mahi this week are running 5-15 lbs. Sailfish are sporadic between fronts but if your timings right expect to catch 5 or more in a day. Kingfish are ferocious on local reefs. 4 lines out equals 4 kingfish caught! All & all January is a great month to fish in Stuart, FL when the ocean allows us to get offshore in our beautiful 40′ offshore vessel the “Mayhem”.
